Cardiff City have confirmed the appointment of Paul Trollope as their new manager.

Trollope, 43, who is also part of Chris Coleman's backroom staff, will be allowed to continue his role with Wales at Euro 2016 this summer in France.

Russell Slade left the manager's position at the end of the season to become Director of Football of the Championship club which will involve overseeing the scouting, along with other duties.

And Trollope, who has been part of Slade's coaching team for more than a year, will take over as first team boss.

Owner Vincent Tan said: "I am delighted for Paul on his new appointment. He is young, full of ideas, extremely hard working and this is an opportunity for him to establish his credentials further.

"I believe Paul will improve the team in several areas. In particular, I hope he will lead the team to play an attractive style of football that Cardiff City fans love.

"We hope that under Paul's leadership, Cardiff City will return to the Premier League. I'd like to thank him for what he has done for us so far whilst wishing him the best of luck for the future. He has our full support."

Trollope said he would remain part of the Wales set-up until at least after Euro 2016.

"I'm due to meet up with Wales in preparation for the Euros and that doesn't change," said Trollope.

"I've got full belief that I've got time to prepare properly for pre-season and the new season ahead.

"Maybe 20 years ago it would have been a problem, but with modern technology in the world today I don't see it as any hindrance to the new season.

"After that I think there will be a discussion moving forward with Chris Coleman (Wales manager), the FAW and the club whether it's viable (to stay)."
