Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew was buoyed by his team's performance in the 1-0 win at Watford

Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew says he has been lifted by his side's 1-0 win at Watford.

Pardew's side came into the contest at Vicarage Road on the back of two tight 1-0 defeats to Manchester City and Tottenham, but they got back to winning ways thanks to Yohan Cabaye's second-half penalty.

Despite Watford's late rally, Palace held on for their third away win of the season and Pardew, hailed his side's "important" victory.

"Sometimes you want a performance that really lifts you and this lifted me because the concentration levels were really high," he told Sky Sports.

Kevin Phillips says Alan Pardew has done a magnificent job with Crystal Palace and singled out substitute Wilfried Zaha for changing the game at Watford

"The back four were terrific and along with the goalkeeper they did not give Watford too much daylight at all today. That didn't really take away from our threat. Our wide players caused them a bit of trouble here and there."

"We got ourselves a really great win in a tight game because we've lost two tight games we didn't really deserve to lose in my opinion, particularly the City game," he added.

"Drawing against City, drawing against Spurs and drawing here would be fantastic but if we keep going for the win it makes up for those games where the margins cost us.

With the game locked at 0-0 Pardew introduced Wilfried Zaha from the bench after hooking him off at half-time in last weekend's defeat at Tottenham.

Pardew told Zaha he must improve his concentration levels after the defeat at Spurs and he certainly made an instant impact at Watford, winning the penalty which ultimately decided the game.

Pardew said: "I thought he did very well in the week at Charlton [in the Capital One Cup].

"That was the first part of his reaction to that disappointment. Then today I knew if he was fresh coming off the bench he would cause a problem or two.

"He's got that kind of determination to prove I'm wrong. I like that and he did. He did really well and now it's about when he starts having that concentration all the time."
