Bakary Sako was the subject of interest from Birmingham City

Bakary Sako is staying at Crystal Palace for at least the rest of the season to help them fight for Premier League survival, according to Sam Allardyce.

The new Eagles boss has confirmed that the club rejected a £4m bid from Birmingham City for the midfielder, which was reported by Sky Sports News HQ earlier this week.

Sako had barely played under Allardyce's predecessor Alan Pardew, making just four appearances before starting for Allardyce in the home defeat to Swansea.

But Allardyce said: "Bakary Sako has expressed a wish to stay and fight, and help Crystal Palace stay in the Premier League."

Allardyce, who is sweating on he fitness of Christian Benteke ahead of their FA Cup third-round clash with the manager's former club Bolton, also said he is not trying to sign Motherwell striker Louis Moult or Rennes winger Paul-Georges Ntep.
