Yohan Cabaye says the opportunity to work under Alan Pardew again and the lure of returning to the Premier League were behind his move to Crystal Palace.
Last month, the Eagles paid Paris Saint-Germain a club-record £10m, rising to £13m with add-ons, for the France international.
The transfer reunited Cabaye with Pardew, who signed the 29-year-old midfielder during his tenure at Newcastle.
Speaking to Sky Sports' Geoff Shreeves ahead of Arsenal's visit to Selhurst Park - live on Super Sunday from 12.30pm on Sky Sports 1 - Cabaye said he wants to repay his manager's faith in him.
"One day, the manager called me to ask if I would come to play for Palace," he said.
"I was happy because I know the manager and I wanted to come back to the Premier League.
"He is really close to the players. Every player in the dressing room, those who start the game, the subs, even those who are not involved in the game... he is really close to us.
"He knows each player's quality and he gets the best from us. He gives to us the confidence and you just want to give the confidence back to him."
Cabaye faces Arsenal for the first time since he watched from the stands as his then club Newcastle lost 4-0 to the Gunners in November 2013 amid interest from Arsene Wenger.
"They made a bid in the summer, Newcastle rejected the bid so then it was finished," Cabaye explained.
While Palace ran out 3-1 winners against newly-promoted Norwich at Carrow Road last week, Arsenal suffered a shock 2-0 defeat at the Emirates to West Ham.
Cabaye knows Wenger's side will be looking to bounce back on Sunday.
"Arsenal lost but they will come to Selhurst Park to maybe come and get three points," he added.
"I don't know if they were nervous, but they will play their football."
