Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy says he is happy with striker David McGoldrick's progress as he continues his recovery from injury.

McGoldrick suffered a badly torn hamstring back-heeling the ball in an innocuous-looking incident during a training session in December.

The forward has returned to the training ground to step up his rehabilitation process and is expected to be back in action in March.

McCarthy told the club's official website: "Didz is getting there quickly in terms of his rehab. It's a really bad tear but he is back with us now after doing some of his recovery work at home.

"He's got the target of getting back and playing well and getting in the Republic of Ireland squad for the European Championships in the summer as well. What a carrot that is for anyone.

"We will get the benefits of that as we undoubtedly have to before he can do anything for Ireland and it will be great to have him back when he is ready."
