James Tarkowski has completed his protracted move to Burnley from Championship rivals Brentford.

The 23-year-old defender passed a Deadline Day medical in the North West and has signed a three-and-a-half year deal after the two clubs agreed an undisclosed fee.

Tarkowski did not play for Brentford again after refusing to play against Burnley on January 16 - missing the subsequent games against Preston and Leeds after being disciplined by he club.

He then issued a public apology, revealing his mother is unwell and would like to return to his native north - he was born in Manchester and played for Oldham before signing for Brentford in 2014.

Tarkowski, who made 72 appearances for the Bees, is ineligible for Burnley's Championship clash with Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday, but boss Sean Dyche is delighted to have his man.

He told the Clarets' official website: "James is a player I have known for a couple of seasons and I've monitored his progress from Oldham, right the way through to now.

"He is at a good age and has gained a lot of experience over the last couple of seasons and I feel he can be a big part of us going forwards in the future.

"We want competition in all areas and we have been a little bit light in that area all season, so we feel he's a very good player and an excellent signing for the club, both now and for the future."
