Burnley manager Sean Dyche admits it is "challenging" to get transfer deals done given the current market conditions.

The Clarets will be back in the Premier League this season after Dyche guided them to the Championship title last term.

It was a quick return for Burnley, who were relegated from the top flight in 2015 after a season in which Dyche worked with comfortably the smallest budget of any of the Premier League clubs.

Burnley have not been throwing their money around this summer either, having spent just £3.6m in order to acquire Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Nick Pope from Charlton.

Other Premier League clubs have been conducting brisk business despite soaring prices but Dyche says Burnley are determined to continue operating within their guidelines, fully aware that this can make player recruitment tricky.

"The market is challenging," Dyche told the Lancashire Telegraph. "I'm a broken record but it's the truth.

"It's not just us, when you see the numbers flying around it is a big challenge.

"There's certain clubs spending a lot of money, which is probably surprising in another way, when people see the amounts on certain players.

"Then there are others who are sitting tight and keeping their cards close to their chest.

"We're in the middle somewhere, trying to get deals done which we think are appropriate.

"There are quite strict guidelines here as to what the board and the club want to do financially and it's very tough.

"I made it clear last time we were here, I made it clear this time, and I made it clear in the Championship, it's a club that has to be run properly.

"That's how the board want it and it makes it very challenging, it's as simple as that."
