Defender hopes to celebrate birthday with win

Burnley's on-loan defender Ben Mee is hoping to have two reasons to celebrate when they take on league leaders Southampton at the weekend. The highly-rated centre-half, on a season-long loan from Manchester City, turned 22 on Wednesday, but recent league results have not sparked much joy at Turf Moor. The Clarets are still seeking their first league win at home and Mee told skysports.com that knocking the Saints off their lofty perch would give their season a much-needed kick-start. "It certainly would be a nice present for me, but my birthday was actually on Wednesday (21st), rather than the Friday (23rd) that everyone has got written down for some reason," Mee told skysports.com. "It would be just nice to get our first home win in the league this season and do well against the current league leaders. "Everybody says that there are no easy games in this league and that is because this division is incredible in terms of strength in depth. "There are so many good clubs in this division that you can never rest on your heels. "Southampton are obviously flying at the moment, so it will be a great test for us when they come to Turf Moor on Saturday. "We might not have had the best of starts to the season, but I think that there are a certain amount of positives we can take from it. "We are still a young squad, so we should get stronger as the season progresses and we've played quite well so far, but unfortunately we haven't put as many points on the board as we've deserved."
