Coventry have re-signed Portsmouth's Sky Bet League Two title-winning captain Michael Doyle.

The midfielder led Pompey to the title this season but the out-of-contract 35-year-old has opted to stay in the fourth tier with relegated Coventry.

Former Republic of Ireland international Doyle previously spent eight years with the Sky Blues, making over 250 appearances between 2003 and 2011.

Spells at Leeds and Sheffield United followed, before he moved to Fratton Park in 2015.

Immediately made club captain by Paul Cook, Doyle played 90 league games in two seasons with the club, scoring three goals.

Coventry boss Mark Robins told the club's website: "I'm delighted to welcome Michael back to the club. He has just captained Portsmouth to the League Two title and has almost been an ever-present throughout his career.
