Watford boss Dyche takes positives from draw

Andy Thorn hailed Coventry's resilience after they frustrated Watford in a goalless draw on Saturday to pick up just their fourth away point of the season. But the manager was annoyed after seeing a first-half goal disallowed. The Sky Blues had the ball in the net in the 25th minute when Nathan Cameron headed in a corner but referee Colin Webster had already blown for an infringement. Despite that disappointment, Thorn was pleased with the way his team had dealt with an in-form Watford side.

Tough

He said: "They're in form, it's a tough place to come, but we knew what to expect. We were going to get peppered early on and throughout the game. "We did, we stood strong, we got some great blocks in and in the end we got a couple of chances." Thorn was also happy with the number of chances his side created. "They've had a couple but (Oliver) Norwood's had one and Cody's (McDonald) had two and there's nothing wrong with Nathan Cameron's goal. "I'm bitterly disappointed that was disallowed because there's no contact whatsoever and the boy just runs through and heads it. I'm really disappointed in that decision because that's three points for us." Thorn continued: "They (Watford) do great at what they do and Sean's (Dyche) done terrific and it was important that we matched them for their style of play. "It's not the way I want to play; I think I said before I thought at one stage the ball was going to be substituted and bandaged up and taken to the hospital. "We had to dig in and show some character against a really good side that, results-wise, he's got playing well. "It was a test for us and I'm disappointed after all the effort that we put in that we're going away with not three points when you score a perfectly good goal." Despite being held to a goalless stalemate for the second time this season by Coventry, Watford manager Sean Dyche looked at the point in a positive light. He said: "They came with an obvious game plan to sort of lull the game and we huffed and puffed first half and then second half improved considerably and really took the game on. "We caused enough to take the lead and then nearly got our pocket picked by a couple of breakaways from just a long ball down the pitch.
Right way
"That would have been disappointing but to be perfectly honest in the grand scheme of things, 18 points out of the last 10 games, the way we're going is the right way. "I always mention we don't consider ourselves the real deal or the finished article, there's plenty of development for our young players and none more so than young Britt (debutant Britt Assombalonga). "They're fighting and sometimes that can sort of draw the feel of the game." Dyche continued: "Overall it's a point, it's a positive point and it's a clean sheet and we carry on continuing the building process."
