Rangers currently prop up the Premier League, with their 3-0 win over Walsall in the Capital One Cup the only time they have tasted victory this season.
Their away form does not bode well for the trip to the Emirates Stadium, with QPR having failed to win on the road since getting the better of Stoke at the Britannia Stadium last November.
But Mbia, signed from Marseilles on transfer deadline day, is keen to ignore what has gone before ahead of Saturday's London derby.
"We haven't had much luck, but it is up to us to make our own luck and once we do the results will come," he told QPR's official website.
"The lads are calm and we know if we keep improving we will start to climb the table.
"We can go to the Emirates with confidence, because we have a good team with a good, strong mentality.
"We have experience and at places like the Emirates, you need to be strong, composed and confident."
Rangers were unable to make a numerical advantage count in their last game, a 1-1 draw with Everton last Sunday.
The Toffees were reduced to 10 men when Steven Pienaar was dismissed with half an hour remaining, leaving the Cameroon international frustrated that their search for a first win of the season goes on.
"We played well against Everton," added Mbia. "I thought we were very unlucky. We deserved much more from the game.
"We really wanted to get that first win for the club and the fans."
