Transfer news: Rio Ferdinand expected to seal QPR switch

QPR are expected to confirm the signing of former England captain Rio Ferdinand next week, with Steven Caulker tipped to join him at Loftus Road.

Ferdinand is available on a free transfer following his release from Manchester United and is due to complete a move back to London on a one-year deal, once he returns from media duties at the World Cup.

R's boss Harry Redknapp is hopeful the former England captain's arrival will persuade Caulker to choose the west Londoners over a number of other suitors.

A fee has already been agreed with relegated Cardiff for the 22-year-old centre-back, who worked under Redknapp at Tottenham, but Everton, Liverpool and Southampton are also thought to be keen.

A fresh one-year deal remains on offer to QPR's play-off final winner, Bobby Zamora, though Championship side Millwall are interested in the striker.
