Jamie Vardy has won the player of the month award after he scored five goals in October. He's the leading scorer so far this season.

Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy has been named the Barclays Premier League Player of the Month for October.

Vardy, who has been included in Roy Hodgson's England squad for the upcoming friendlies with Spain and France, enjoyed a sensational month in front goal, netting in each of the Foxes' five league matches.

The 28-year-old, currently the Premier League's top scorer with 12 goals, scored five goals during October, including the winning goals in victories over Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion.

His form also helped Leicester remain unbeaten during the month and lifted Claudio Ranieri's side up to third, three points off league leaders Manchester City.

"It's an unbelievable achievement and it just shows how the club is doing as well as me. They are putting me into the positions to score the goals, so I am obviously delighted to get the award," Vardy said.

"When the gaffer came in he said that he wanted everyone to improve, so I had to improve on what I did last year and I have already doubled my tally from last year.

"I don't set myself any targets, I just want to keep on improving as much as possible and the way the season has started I could not ask for much more really. It's been a brilliant start for myself as well as the team."

Spanish giants Real Madrid have been linked with a January move for Vardy, who could equal Ruud van Nistelrooy's record of scoring in 10 consecutive matches if he finds the back of the net against Newcastle United on November 21.

But when asked about those reports linking him with a move away from the King Power Stadium, Vardy added: "It's all speculation, it's as simple as that. I am happy with what I am doing at Leicester and long may that continue."
