Northern Ireland boss delighted with Celtic ace

Nigel Worthington was full of praise for Paddy McCourt following his double salvo in Northern Ireland's win over Faroe Islands. Worthington's side got their Euro 2012 campaign back on track at Windsor Park thanks to a 4-0 success. Aaron Hughes and Steven Davis had the home side 2-0 up before McCourt's second half brace added the icing on the cake. McCourt was a constant threat throughout and his second of the night was a trademark individual effort, capped by a deft finish. Worthington accepts the Celtic man has great individual ability, although he accepts the 27-year-old is still learning his team skills.

Learning

"He's a fantastic individual player with good feet and he's learning how to play for the team," Worthington said. "It was a superb display overall - he's taken the opportunity with both hands. With Pat there's so much ability there." On his team's performance, Worthington continued on Sky Sports: "We got off to a perfect start and then for whatever reason stopped doing what we'd done in the first 10 minutes. "We sorted one or two things out at half-time and were more positive getting players forward. "Credit the lads they kept their nerve and it finished up a fantastic result." On James McClean, who this week became the latest player to reject a Northern Ireland call-up to pledge allegiance to the Republic of Ireland, Worthington added: "For people to play for Northern Ireland you have to play with passion. "If people don't want to they'll go elsewhere but we had 14 or 15 on the pitch tonight and all of them wanted to play for their country."
