Sky sources understand Hull City will appoint former Everton and Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Bobby Mimms as a coach.
Mike Phelan has been left with a threadbare backroom team in recent weeks after Stephen Clemence and goalkeeping coach Steve Walsh left the club to join Steve Bruce at Sky Bet Championship side Aston Villa.
Academy manager Tony Pennock has stepped up to help out, while Phelan has brought in Neil McDonald as his assistant, and Mimms will now fill Walsh's position as the club's new goalkeeping coach.
The appointment comes as Phelan had admitted he would use the international break as an opportunity to add to his staff, with the official confirmation of Mimms' new role likely to be announced next week.
Mimms, 53, was announced as Bolton Wanderers' goalkeeping coach in August 2015, having spent time working alongside Sam Allardyce at West Ham as well as new Hull coach McDonald at Blackpool.
Hull are currently 18th in the Premier League and will travel to the Stadium of Light on November 19 to face David Moyes' Sunderland, who are currently bottom of the table, following the international break.
