Mike Phelan has "no intention" of setting a points target as Hull attempt to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Despite winning their opening two games this campaign, the Tigers have won just once in the league since and, as they approach the half-way stage of the season, are four points from safety.

Hull struck the woodwork three times in their 1-0 defeat by West Ham last weekend, and next host Manchester City on Boxing Day, live on Sky Sports 1HD.

"The only negative of last week was the result," Phelan said. "The performance was terrific but you don't always get what you deserve.

"If we can look at City as just another game, then hopefully we won't put too much pressure on ourselves and we can pick up the points.

"Setting points targets is sometimes the worst thing you can do - it puts pressure on."
