Wales boss thrilled with defender's rise up the ranks

John Toshack has revealed his delight at Sam Ricketts' astonishing rise up the ranks of English football. In a four-year spell Ricketts from gone from non-league football with Telford to helping Hull City win a place in the Premier League for the first time in their 104-year history. Ricketts is now part of the Wales set-up under Toshack and the former Real Madrid boss believes the 27-year-old is improving with every game. "I am so pleased for Sam, he is a super professional. We all have limitations in our game, even the best players," stated Toshack.

Constantly improved

"But four years ago he was at Telford and they went bust. He was out of work. But he has come into international football and constantly improved. "He has had good games, steady games and bad games. But you can never doubt his application. He has played 27 games now for his country and never let anyone down. "He went to Swansea and then got his move to Hull, and here he is now looking forward to playing in the Premier League next season. "I must admit that four years ago I did not believe that I could say something like that, but I am delighted I am able to."
