Hull want French defender

Hull City have confirmed their interest in French full-back Bernard Mendy. The 26-year-old is out-of-contract at Paris Saint Germain and is set to leave the Parc des Princes this summer. Mendy has attracted interest from the likes of Celtic and Fulham, as he appears keen on a return to Britain. Mendy enjoyed a season with Bolton in 2002, where he worked with Hull boss Phil Brown. Now Brown is reported to have offered Mendy the chance to play for his newly promoted side.

Interest

Hull assistant Brian Horton has confirmed their interest in Mendy but admitted an Italian club, thought to be Sampdoria, are also keen. "There's been ongoing talks but he has got an Italian club also interested," said Horton. "He's got to make his mind up with his agent and his wife if he wants to come to England or go to Italy. "He's just a quality player. Phil obviously knows him from his Bolton days and that's what we want to add to the squad. "It's no good just getting names for the sake of it if they're not going to improve the squad because we have got some good players already."
