Tigers boss believes defender is on verge of England honours

Hull City manager Phil Brown believes that defender Michael Turner is close to a call-up to the England squad. The 25-year-old, signed from Brentford for £350,000 in July 2006, has been an ever-present for the Tigers in the Premier League this season. England boss Fabio Capello was present for the club's draw at Chelsea where Brown believes he was not just looking at the home side. The Tigers boss spoke with England physio Gary Lewin a few days after the game and he admitted that two Hull City players had been in the Italian's thoughts for the Spain friendly.

Performance

"I had a casual conversation with the England physio at a dinner last Thursday and he said Fabio Capello was interested in Jimmy Bullard and Michael. "It was a conversation to gauge if the players were fit enough to play against Spain. Fabio Capello was at the game on Saturday and as far as Michael was concerned, he gave a performance worthy of interest. "We got a phone call from Gary Lewin on Saturday evening to say that Michael would not be required, but just to be in the thoughts of the England set-up is massively encouraging. "Fingers crossed Michael will continue to show the form he has done all season."
