Palermo's Abel Hernandez was approached by Tottenham at the end of last season, according to his agent.

Young striker was Tottenham target

Palermo striker Abel Hernandez was approached by Tottenham at the end of last season, according to his agent. The young Uruguay international, who joined the Serie A club last year, has previously been linked with Arsenal. But agent Vincenzo D'Ippolito says Spurs attempted to sign the 20-year-old earlier this year. D'Ippolito told reterete24: "In May, Tottenham asked Hernandez to leave Palermo, but the deal never occurred because (club president Maurizio) Zamparini said the player was unsellable."

Problems

Hernandez is without a league goal for Palermo so far this season, with his only strike coming in a 3-2 UEFA Europa League defeat to Sparta Prague. D'Ippolito admits Hernandez has experienced problems at the club after suffering with injury and has struggled under coach Delio Rossi's chosen formation. "In the championship he was unable to give his best, partly because of a muscle problem which torments him and which he especially feels when he tries to shoot," he said. "He has also not been helped by the new formation. Abel shows his best quality playing in tandem with a central striker, while the new system sees the two attacking midfielders behind the only striker."
