Nick Barmby doubts Hull City will make a move for Doncaster striker Billy Sharp after insisting he will not pay 'over-inflated prices'.

Tigers caretaker won't pay over-inflated prices in January window

Nick Barmby doubts Hull City will make a move for Doncaster Rovers striker Billy Sharp after insisting he will not pay 'over-inflated prices'. Doncaster chairman John Ryan recently confirmed that Sharp can leave the club in January for £3million and skysports.com understands Fulham are set to kick-off the bidding war. Ipswich Town and Southampton saw offers rejected in the summer, while Leicester City are reported to have made a bid to sign Sharp in the New Year. The Tigers have also been linked with a swoop for the nine-goal forward, but Barmby suggested the figures being quoted are beyond his club's reach.

Good player

"We've assessed it and they're talking about £3m," caretaker boss Barmby told the Hull Daily Mail. "I don't see that happening, especially at £3m. We've got Matty Fryatt, Aaron Mclean, Richard Garcia and Cameron Stewart who can all play there. "To pay £3m, yes he's a good player, but we're definitely not going to pay over-inflated prices for people." Barmby added: "If the right player comes along then we will go for him and hopefully get him. "This club in the past has tried to make big statements about big players and it's come back to bite us. "It's great for the fans because the rumour mill comes around. I've heard the rumour mill about Michael Turner, about Billy Sharp and about Luciano Becchio at Leeds. "That's football and you can't stop that but I can say that we're not going to panic and we'll take our time."
