Striker expected to join another League One club

Cheltenham Town have missed out on Gary Hooper after the Southend United striker decided to move elsewhere. Southend had accepted a bid of up to £175,000 from their League One rivals and gave Hooper permission to discuss a deal at Whaddon Road. However, Robins chairman Paul Baker says the transfer-listed forward has opted to join another club. "I have been told by Keith (Downing) that Hooper has gone elsewhere," Baker told the Gloucestershire Echo. "Someone has come in with a fantastic deal, we are not sure how close we were and we are very disappointed, but we will now look elsewhere. "Southend put a valuation on the player and we matched that, so we were not outbid. It's the player's decision based on a contract offer." Fellow League One sides Scunthorpe United and Stockport County are now thought to be fighting it out to sign Hooper.
