Carlisle boss Keith Curle has revealed the club has made a bid to land Bradford midfielder Gary Liddle.

Curle has targeted the 29-year-old, who has amassed more than 400 appearances for Hartlepool, Notts County and the Bantams, and the Cumbrians are currently assessing their options after their initial approach was rejected.

The Carlisle boss told the club's official website: "I spoke to their manager and we've spoken to their club, and we have made an offer for him. The initial approach was turned down so the ball is back in our court.

"We know he's out of contract in the summer, but we haven't yet been given permission for me to speak to the player.

"That means we'll leave the powers that be to do their work, but there isn't really a transfer market at this level for a player who is coming out of contract with his club at the end of the season.

"I've made the approach because he's a player I think could add certain qualities we need to our squad.

"I have a valuation in my mind for him and I've given that to [managing director] John [Nixon]. We're both of the understanding that we know what we want and we know our price. We haven't exhausted our approach on this one, but we're close."
