Giovanni Trapattoni has called up Carlisle goalkeeper Keiren Westwood to the Republic of Ireland squad after his play-off heroics.
The 23-year-old was in fine form during the Cumbrian side's dramatic League One play-off semi-final against Leeds.
Despite the Yorkshire men claiming a final spot at Wembley after a 3-2 aggregate win, Westwood was outstanding and recommended to Trapattoni by goalkeeping coach Alan Kelly.
The young Manchester-born player will join the rest of the 20-man squad after Birmingham's Colin Doyle withdrew from the party because of injury.
The team are already at the training camp in the Algarve ready to take part in games against Lagos and Portimonese.
Trapattoni said: "Our scout told us Westwood played very well against Leeds. He was born in England, but his father is from Ireland so I said, 'okay, call him up'."
Re-jig
The Italian has had to re-jig his initial 28-man squad after injuries, especially to 25-year-old play-maker Andy Reid, who has a problem with his hamstring.
The Sunderland midfielder was due to fly out with the squad but now joins a host of players who have withdrawn - including Shay Given, John O'Shea and Robbie Keane who are either injured or have club commitments.
Despite the setbacks, Trapattoni is happy with what he has seen so far since taking over the helm from Steve Staunton.
"The two training sessions we have had have gone very well. It is very clear that the players want to learn and advance as a group," he said.
Big impression
And one player hoping to make a big impression is Reading striker Kevin Doyle. Despite his side's relegation from the Premier League, the 24-year-old says he is happy to stay with the Royals and focus on both international and club duty.
"It is not a nice feeling after having such a good two seasons with Reading. But I am very happy at Reading," he said.
