Sheridan keen on former Southend midfielder

Oldham manager John Sheridan has confirmed his interest in midfielder Kevin Maher. The 31-year-old midfielder is currently a free agent following his release from Southend at the end of last season. He has been training with Gillingham this summer after spending two months on loan at Priestfield last season. However, he has yet to agree a deal with Gillingham and Sheridan is hoping to win the chase for his signature. "Kevin is a very good player who has won promotion from this division before and played at a higher level, as well as captaining his previous club for a number of years," Sheridan told the club's official website. "We need leaders on the pitch - people who organise and boss people around. I've got some very good young players but they need help on the pitch and can't just hear my voice all the time." Managing director Simon Corney added: "We have made Kevin an offer and are now waiting for him to get back to us."
