Walsall set to hand trial to veteran striker

League One outfit Walsall are set to hand veteran striker Geoff Horsfield a trial at Banks's Stadium. The journeyman striker, who has taken in 10 clubs during a 16-year career, has been training with the Saddlers for the last three weeks. He was released by Sheffield United as a free agent over the summer and has been working with Walsall in order to keep his fitness levels up. Jimmy Mullen had previously insisted that Horsfield's time at the club was merely a favour to help him get in shape, but has now admitted that a deal could be struck. "It would be remiss of me not to take the opportunity," the Walsall boss told the Express and Star. "It is something we can look at and I will speak to him when the time is right but that is down to Geoff as well. "It would give us cover but we have young lads like Troy Deeney, Alex Nicholls and Ishmel Demontagnac who can play down the middle too."
