Crewe loanee set for talks to make deal permanent in the summer

Dennis Lawrence has revealed he will sit down with Crewe at the end of the season and discuss his long-term future. The defender is currently on loan from Swansea but with this contract at the Liberty Stadium running out at the end of the season, a permanent move to the Railwaymen looks on the cards. The 35-year-old returned to first-team action on Saturday after missing the club's last four matches with a fractured cheekbone. The Trinidad and Tobago international proved his commitment to the cause in the 1-0 win at Colchester by wearing a face mask to protect the injury. Lawrence has been instrumental in the club's revival under new manager Gudjon Thordarson, with Crewe now six points clear of the drop zone after being rock bottom when the Icelander took over in late December. "I'm enjoying my time at Crewe. The manager and I have spoken and have decided to sit down later in the summer and discuss things to decide what not only is best for me but best for Crewe as well," he told The Sentinel.

Main aim

"But the main aim at the moment is to make sure we get safe as quickly as possible then see what happens after that. "There's no way we can afford to take our foot off the gas at this point in the season. It's still not going to be easy and we've got to keep going. "We now need to say 'We've got 10 games, let's see how many of those we can win and see where that takes us'." Those sentiments are echoed by his manager who, despite his side winning seven of their last 10 games, is wary of the threat that Bristol Rovers will pose when they visit in midweek. "We can't be carried away as there is still a long way to go and we are still seeing all kinds of results," he said. "We faced a very tough game against a team who are flying on Tuesday night."
