John Finnigan is hoping to see out his Cheltenham contract and remain at Whaddon Road until the summer of 2010.
Finnigan has been a key figure in the Robins squad since joining the club in 2002 but he was restricted to just 11 appearances last season by a persistent heel problem.
He has been plagued by injuries again during the current campaign and, now 33, there has been speculation about his future.
The midfielder was one of several players made available for transfer last month due to Cheltenham's financial plight.
However, he still hopes to stay next season and will speak to manager Martin Allen in the summer.
"I am going to keep my head down until the end of the season and keep working as hard as I can," he told the Gloucestershire Echo.
"Hopefully then I can sit down with the manager and discuss it and see where we both think my future lies.
"It's difficult when things are up in the air, but I have a year left on my contract and I have always said I want to see it out.
"If other people have different ideas I might have to change that, but I am happy at the moment."
