Striker turns down fresh contract as he looks for new club

Oldham Athletic have confirmed Lee Hughes has left the club after turning down a new contract. Hughes had spent the past two years at Boundary Park and was offered an extension by new Latics boss Dave Penney. He had also been offered a deal in January which would have made him the club's highest-paid player, but he has snubbed the terms on the table. The 33-year-old is now assessing his options after being offered a contract by Notts County, although his initial demands are too high for the League Two side. Latics managing director Simon Corney told the club's official website: "We made Lee an offer and after consideration he informed us he would not be signing. "We understand he is now speaking to other clubs, meaning the manager will pursue other options." Hughes scored 26 goals in 61 appearances for Oldham, but finished last season on loan in the Championship with Blackpool.
