Stimson to look elsewhere due to Daggers striker's price tag

Gillingham boss Mark Stimson has ended his interest in Paul Benson due to Dagenham & Redbridge's asking price for the striker. Stimson saw an offer for Benson rejected earlier this month and he has now opted against following up with an improved bid. He admits he is not prepared to meet Dagenham's demands and now plans to look elsewhere in his search for a new striker. "I think Dagenham have stated the money they want and it's something we're not going to get involved in," said Stimson. "We've moved on. We definitely need one striker and there maybe another twist in there if we can do it. "We've been working on a few things throughout the summer and one or two things are coming to the fore now so they might happen." Skysports.com understands Dagenham have received a six-figure offer from a rival League Two club for Benson, who scored 21 goals last season.
