New Nottingham Forest head coach Philippe Montanier has admitted he was a keen observer during the club's European glory days - and one player in particular caught his eye.
Montanier was born just outside Paris and has spent his playing and coaching career in France and Spain, but Brian Clough's all-conquering team of the late 1970s came to the attention of the man who used to be a goalkeeper himself.
Montanier, who has joined Forest as head coach on a two-year deal, told Sky Sports News HQ: "I remember the great moment when I was young when I saw Nottingham Forest win the European Cup. I remember the players, and I was a fan of Peter Shilton.
"But that is the past and now the most important thing is the present and the future. I know the Championship is very tough when you have big clubs like Newcastle and Aston Villa.
"I am very proud to be head coach of this club. My job is to worry about the squad, prepare the team in pre-season and to win a lot of matches during the season."
Montanier is expected to complete his first signing this week with the capture of Apostolos Vellios for £1m.
Sky sources understand the Greek international striker could be the first of five or six new faces at the City Ground this summer, as Montanier and new football director Pedro Pereira set about building a new squad.
