Friendlies round-up: Everton and Nottingham Forest win, Middlesbrough draw

Everton continued their pre-season preparations with a comfortable 3-0 win over Dutch opponents FC Twente on Wednesday.

Kevin Mirallas opened the scoring in the Netherlands with a fine effort on the stroke of half-time and Aaron Lennon added the Toffees' second.

Kieran Dowell, who scored the winner against Gor Mahia last week, struck another excellent goal to further his claim for a first-team spot when the Premier League season begins.

It was the perfect warm-up ahead of Everton's return to European action, as they start their Europa League campaign in the third qualifying round in eight days' time.

There was also a first start for Michael Keane following his arrival from Burnley, while Wayne Rooney came off the bench after scoring in Tanzania.

Middlesbrough were held to a 2-2 draw by Mansfield in their third pre-season outing.

New arrival Jonny Howson sliced into his own net to hand the hosts the lead at Field Mill and Boro capped a nightmare start when Lee Angol put them two goals behind.

But the Championship side pulled one back through Mikael Soisalo and were level at the break thanks to Dael Fry's header.

Nottingham Forest got the better of city rivals Notts County with a 2-0 win at Meadow Lane.

England U19 star Ben Brereton and Apostolos Vellios scored the goals for Mark Warburton's side.

Summer signings Jason Cummings and Barrie McKay both started, while triallist Andreas Bouchalakis lined up in midfield.
