Former Swansea manager Garry Monk says he understands why the club took the decision to sack him last week, adding he holds no resentment towards the club.
Monk, who remains regarded as a bright young managerial prospect, said he is eager to make a quick return to management.
The 36-year-old was sacked by Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins last week after a run of just one victory in 11 Premier League games.
The decision was seen as harsh in some quarters, considering Monk guided Swansea to an impressive eighth-place last season, the club's highest finish in the Premier League.
Speaking to The Times, Monk said: "I totally respected his decision. Of course it was difficult. I felt we would turn things round, we had everything in place to do that.
"I'd like to have been given time to turn it round, which I felt confident of doing, but I've nothing but respect and gratitude for that opportunity.
"It was a great opportunity in the highest and toughest league in the world, and overall it was a success.
"I honestly don't feel sad about it. The last 22 months, I learnt so much.
"No other club in the Premier League would have given the club captain that opportunity to take the club in that situation, with 13 games to go, two points above the relegation zone.
"They were brave, they deserve credit for it. Of course I trusted myself."
Monk now plans to keep active within the game, so he is "ready for that next opportunity when it comes".
He said: "I've spent the last few days with the family to try and switch off a bit.
"After two days with twins and a four-year-old, I am raring to go! My energy is as high as it has ever been, my motivation is as high as it has ever been."
