Alan Curtis says he's comfortable with only being caretaker manager at Swansea

Alan Curtis says he's happy to continue managing Swansea in the short term despite the lack of assurances over his future.

Since Garry Monk's sacking on December 10, Curtis has been at the helm and is guaranteed to remain in place for the club's first match of the new year - a visit to Manchester United.

Curtis guided the Swans to victory against West Bromwich Albion on Boxing Day and followed up that with a battling goalless draw at Crystal Palace.

It has been an impressive start for the former Welsh striker and Sky sources understand the club are considering naming him as their permanent boss on a deal until the end of the season, although any decision is dependent on results.

Curtis remains focused on activities on the pitch and said: "If we had lost four games then there would have been huge pressure on the club to appoint a new manager.

"But the results and performances have been good. Most importantly the performances are good. We've shown a lot of spirit and character and showed the ability to play the type of game we want to play."

Asked if a statement from the club's board to clarify his long term future would be beneficial, Curtis said: "It may help but I would never look for that.

"I'm quite comfortable with the situation we are in. It's a day by day basis and things could change.

"I don't need any statement. You just do what you're paid to do and prepare the club. I prepare the team for the weekend and you just carry on doing that until the situation changes and we do appoint somebody."

Looking ahead to the January transfer window, Curtis said he was unaware of any bid to bring in Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford after he terminated his loan spell at Crystal Palace, but did admit the Swans need to score more goals.

Forward Bafetimbi Gomis and midfielder Jonjo Shelvey have been mentioned as possible departures from the Liberty Stadium - with reports linking them to Qatari club Lekhwiya and Newcastle United respectively - but Curtis insists he wants to keep them.

As for Saturday's team news, Curtis revealed defender Federico Fernandez has a heel injury but could be fit in time for the trip to Old Trafford, while winger Wayne Routledge has a knee injury but should be available.
