Gylfi Sigurdsson says he is aiming to become Swansea's all-time record goal scorer in the Premier League.

Sigurdsson has enjoyed fine form in front of goal since the turn of the year and netted his 25th Premier League strike for the Swans during the 1-0 victory over Chelsea on Saturday.

That goal, Sigurdsson's 11th of the season, drew the Iceland international level with Wilfried Bony, who left the club to join Manchester City in a £25m deal last summer.

Swansea travel to face Newcastle on Saturday and Sigurdsson is hoping to break the record against a side that have conceded six goals in their last two Premier League games.

"I had been told I was getting closer (to Bony's total) and that has driven me on a bit," said Sigurdsson, whose well-struck volley guided Swansea to their first league win over Chelsea since 1981.

"It is a great achievement and I'm happy to be up there with Bony as he is a very good player. Hopefully I can get the next one by the end of season and get one over Bony.

"I probably wasn't too happy with myself before the turn of the year. I'd only managed two goals, but it's been good to score goals at an important time of the season.

"I'm very happy getting into double figures."

Sigurdsson's return to goal scoring form has coincided with an upturn in results for Swansea, who have now won six of their 12 games under manager Francesco Guidolin.

The Welsh club have all but guaranteed their place in the Premier League next season after passing the 40 point mark with victory over the Blues last weekend and Sigurdsson believes the club made the correct decision to appoint Guidolin, following the sacking of Garry Monk earlier in the campaign.

"When results are going our way it looks really good for the manager and for the chairman who made the decision to change things," he added.

"That's the way it is when things are going your way. He brought his own ideas and is very organised being Italian, he likes a clean sheet that's for sure.

"Things just seem easier when you build up a bit of a gap, and hopefully we can kick on now and get a few more points.

"It's a big relief to get the 40 points and hopefully that will be enough."
