Season review
Coming off the back of the club's best ever Premier League finish in 2014/15, there were few signs of the problems to come for Garry Monk - particularly when Swansea began the campaign by picking up eight points in four games in August. A come-from-behind win over Manchester United was the highlight, their third in a row against Louis van Gaal's side.
But what followed was a miserable run of form that would cost Monk his job. Eliminated from the Capital One Cup by Hull, the only team that Swansea beat between September and Christmas was Aston Villa. Amid talk of dressing room problems, a 3-0 home defeat to Leicester that left the Swans just two points above the drop zone proved the final straw.
Alan Curtis took over in a caretaker role but any upturn in fortunes was minimal. Oxford knocked Swansea out of the FA Cup and a 4-2 home defeat to Sunderland soon after left them in a precarious position just one point from safety. Francesco Guidolin arrived the following week and the experienced Italian helped to spark the revival.
There were away wins over Everton and Arsenal, while Gylfi Sigurdsson's goal inflicted Chelsea's first Premier League defeat of the season under Guus Hiddink. The Icelandic midfielder's good form has been a feature of Swansea's season with nine of his 11 Premier League goals coming since the turn of the year.
May wins over Liverpool and West Ham ensured that the team finished the campaign on a relative high and back in mid-table - with the 24 points from 15 games enough to earn Guidolin a new two-year contract. If that sort of form can be maintained, Swansea supporters will be hoping for a less frustrating season next time around.
Quotes of the season
"I sat down with all the players and had good discussions with them on how we go forward. We talked about many things. It's not an easy process, but it's definitely a step in the right direction." - Garry Monk's last-ditch attempt to turn things around
"The decision has been made very reluctantly and with a heavy heart. Nobody foresaw the position we would be in at this moment in time." - Huw Jenkins on sacking Garry Monk in December
"The manager came in a difficult period but he's come in, settled very well and he's picked up the language well and got to know the squad. We're delighted for him, he's a good guy." - Leon Britton on the decision to extend Francesco Guidolin's contract
Stats of the season
Andre Ayew scored four goals in his last three appearances of the season to overtake Gylfi Sigurdsson as Swansea's top scorer.
Swansea's 4-1 win at West Ham in May was the first time they had scored four or more in an away Premier League game for since beating QPR 5-0 in August 2012.
Charlie Nicholas's view
I've been really disappointed with them. They've got a lot of good footballers and I think it says a lot that Leon Britton has come back in and been one of their best players. Jefferson Montero, Ki Sung-yueng, even Jack Cork should be performing at a higher level consistently.
