Swansea City have taken a step back with their display in Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Leicester City at the Liberty Stadium, according to manager Paul Clement.

Clement's side came into the contest on the back of a morale-boosting win at home to Huddersfield Town last weekend, their first home Premier League victory of the season.

However, Swansea's loss against Leicester was their fourth in their last five league matches in the Principality, a result that sees them slip to 15th in the table.

"If you look at the nature of their goals, the first one deflects off our own player and goes into the net," said Clement after the full-time whistle.

"And the other one, which I have slowed down and looked at very carefully, is marginally offside. I think it is a difficult one for the linesman, but it is offside.

"Last week we took a step forward with our performance defensively and offensively, but this week I think we have taken a step back."

The Swansea manager was clear where his team lost the game, however, blaming their lacklustre first-half performance for the defeat.

"Really it was our performance in the first half that cost us," said Clement. "When you go 2-0 down, then you have to chase the game, you have no choice.

"And we did, we got the goal back, and then with still 30 minutes to go you think you have a real good chance.

"But we could not break them down with any real good chances and what I am most disappointed about really is that nothing happened that we did not expect. Leicester played the way we have seen them play over the last couple of seasons.

"They defend very solidly and look to break on the counter, both their goals come from situations where we are in offensive positions initially.

"The first one, Luciano Narsingh crosses from the right and the ball goes to the far post, then they are on the break and we have to get back quicker and defender better in that situation.

"The second one as well is a set play for us in a good position, we put the cross in, they break and although very marginally offside, that is the killer blow. So a disappointing result.

"There have been too many marginal defeats for us in the first nine games, three quarters of the season left and we have to dig in."
