Newcastle have completed the signing of South Korea international Ki Sung-yueng on a two-year deal.
The midfielder, who passed a medical on Friday afternoon, will join the Magpies on a free transfer on July 1 when his current deal with Swansea expires, subject to receiving the appropriate visa.
Ki told the club's official website: "I'm so pleased I can join the club. I was always pleasantly surprised when I came to St. James' Park to play against Newcastle - there is a great atmosphere and the passion from the fans is a great support to the players.
"Everyone knows how big this club is so I'm really looking forward to playing with my teammates and for the fans."
Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez added: "I'm pleased to welcome Ki to the club. He is a player with lots of Premier League and international experience and it was an easy decision to bring him here.
"He is the captain of his country, a good character and he will be a good addition to the squad."
Sky Sports News understands Everton were among five Premier League clubs interested in signing Ki, as well as Italian side AC Milan.
Ki moved to the Liberty Stadium from Celtic in 2012 and made 139 Premier League appearances for the Swans - registering 12 goals.
The 29-year-old spent the 2013/14 season on loan at Newcastle's Wearside rivals Sunderland, scoring three times in 27 league matches as he helped them achieve Premier League survival.
