Hull City's under-23s clash with Millwall was abandoned with a minute to play after a brawl erupted between the two teams

Watch as Hull City U23 and Millwall U23 had their match abandoned after a mass brawl broke out a minute from the end of the game.

The Premier League side were winning 2-1 with a minute of the game to play at North Ferriby United's Grange Lane ground when tempers boiled over.

A series of late tackles led to a 22-man scuffle breaking out on the halfway line, with referee Simon Mather refusing to let the game finish.

Coaches on both sides protested but Mather insisted play could not continue because he was unable to establish who had started the brawl.

Hull academy boss Jon Beale told the Hull Daily Mail: "The referee's reasons for abandoning the game was there were acts of violent conduct and he couldn't identify who the players involved were.

"I even told him who the two main culprits were. One was ours and one was theirs. I suggested sending them both off so we could finish the game but he was having none of it.

"I'm hopeful the result will stand but it will depend on what action the league take. They'll want to see the footage and the reasons why he's abandoned it.

"I've got to be careful what I say but I don't think the referee has controlled the game very well. He's let a few things go that he should have dealt with and it's escalated."

Millwall had led through Jalen Jones' first-half goal but a Ben Hinchcliffe strike and Jarrod Bowen's penalty turned the match around before the late flashpoint.

Sky sources understand both teams been asked to submit their observations to the FA, who have yet to respond to a request for comment.
