Bolton and Scunthorpe are chasing awards doubles after the nominations for August's League One manager and player of the month were revealed.

Phil Parkinson is one of four nominations for manager of the month after leading Bolton to the top of the table, taking 13 points from his first five games in charge.

Bolton captain Jay Spearing is also nominated after scoring two fantastic goals for the league leaders against Sheffield United and Bristol Rovers.

Scunthorpe boss Graham Alexander and winger Josh Morris are also among the contenders after a fine start to the 2016-17 season.

The Iron have been one of the division's most exciting teams so far, scoring 13 goals in their five games and picking up 10 points to sit in fifth.

Morris has proved to be a very shrewd addition by Alexander, who worked with the 24-year-old at Fleetwood in 2014-15, and he has already hit the target five times as well as providing two assists.

Parkinson's former club Bradford City sit second in the table and their boss Stuart McCall is also nominated after an unbeaten August of three wins and two draws.

The final managerial nomination is Gillingham's Justin Edinburgh after they ended the month in the play-off places, before dropping out with a defeat by Sheffield United to open September.

Morris and Spearing are joined in the race for the players' award by Millwall striker Steve Morison, who scored four goals and added a pair of assists in August.

The list of player nominations is completed by young Port Vale defender Nathan Smith who, after a loan spell with Torquay last season, has established himself as a regular at the heart of a back-four which conceded only two goals in August.
