Defender seeks contract extension

Port Vale defender Gareth Owen has said it would be 'great' if he could extend his stay at Vale Park. The 27-year-old still has 12 months left on his current contract but is desperately seeking a revised deal. Owen has been key to Vale's rearguard since joining the club permanently in January 2009 from Yeovil after a brief loan spell. He figured in almost every game last season and looks set to play a major role next term. "I've said all along that I'm happy and proud to be playing for Vale," he told The Sentinel. "I know we're in League Two, where you don't usually get long contracts, but if the club wants to extend my deal, then great. "If my deal isn;t extended, I'll still give 110 per cent and hopefully my performances will take care of themselves. "As long as I keep playing well, there can be no complaints."
