David Wagner insists Hudderfield will stick with their identity in the Premier League

Huddersfield will not change their identity against financially superior sides in the Premier League, says manager David Wagner.

The newly-promoted side begin their top-flight campaign against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday having been tipped as favourites for relegation back to the Sky Bet Championship.

Wagner is not putting any limits on Huddersfield's potential in the Premier League, though, insisting he will take no notice of pre-season predictions.

"I don't care about it," Wagner said. "If they will underestimate us or not. It's what they have to do.

"We will, like we have done the whole time since I arrived, try to do our best, try to bring our ideas, identity, even now in the highest level of the Premier League.

"We will stick to our idea of football. We will not give ourselves any limits, any targets, it makes no sense.

"We know exactly where we come from, we know how big the financial gap is but we know we have the right to play in the Premier League."

Wagner believes last year's achievement to reach the top flight via the play-offs is evidence that his team can defy the odds.

"We said this last season very often, over a long, long time, it's unrealistic for Huddersfield Town to be in the Premier League," the German said.

"And then we said, 'This is not possible'. In football everything is possible. I think we've shown that even the impossible is possible in football.

"Now we have another task in front of us. A difficult task, of course. We are aware but it doesn't change that we are ambitious.

"We are in this league because we are ambitious, even if we know the task is a difficult one."

Barnsley defender Andy Yiadom was undergoing a medical ahead of a proposed move to Huddersfield on Thursday, according to Sky sources, but Wagner would not confirm whether the player will become his 11th summer signing.

"Everybody knows I like the player," he added. "Nothing to announce yet but it looks like we are progressing."
