Chris Hughton says an allegation Brighton's Connor Goldson was racially abused by a Derby fan is being "dealt with swiftly".

The incident is alleged to have occurred during Saturday's 2-2 draw between the sides at Derby's iPro Stadium, where Albion defender Goldson was a spectator.

Derby have referred the matter to the police, and Hughton is happy to leave any further action to the authorities.

He said: "It's a situation that's being dealt with by both clubs and the appropriate people, and I'm quite sure when there's more to say it will be said.

"It's being dealt with in the correct way. It's probably best not to make too much comment, but it was dealt with very swiftly by all parties and we'll find out the outcome in the very short future."

Derby released a statement on Sunday that read: "Derby County are concerned to hear about allegations of racial abuse by a supporter directed at a Brighton & Hove Albion player during Saturday's game at the iPro Stadium.

"We take these matters seriously and will be referring the allegations to the Police. Abuse of any kind has no place in the culture of Derby County Football Club."
