Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe gives his thoughts on the controversial incident which saw Watford midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah leave the ball for Harry Arter

Eddie Howe joked Bournemouth may have to change the terminology they use in training after Watford midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah mistook Harry Arter for one his own team-mates during a Premier League match at the weekend.

Chalobah was left red-faced after leaving the ball for Arter during Watford's 2-0 win at the Vitality Stadium, although the former Chelsea midfielder appeared to receive a shout from his opponent at the crucial moment.

Players are banned from shouting 'leave' or 'mine' in the Premier League and so clubs have developed code words in order to communicate with their team-mates on the pitch.

It is believed Bournemouth and Watford coincidentally share the same code word, 'Sid', causing the bizarre incident at the weekend.

"It's a really difficult one and it's very rare that it comes up. It's not something that is very common in football," said Howe.

Bournemouth's Harry Arter cheekily took advantage of Nathaniel Chalobah’s dummy – after pretending to be one of his team-mates!

"We have a word that we use for leaving the ball. I actually haven't had a word with Harry about the incident so it's very difficult for me to comment.

"I'm going to be talking things second half so I don't want to be saying something that isn't factually correct.

"Until I do that, I would probably swerve it."

When asked if he knew if Bournemouth and Watford shared the same code word, Howe replied: "I don't know.

"I don't know what other teams use. I don't think that there's one universal word that teams use, teams would use different things.

"I don't want to make too much of it. Until I've spoken to Harry it's very difficult for me to say."

When pushed on whether the Cherries would look to change their code word in the wake of the incident, Howe joked: "It looks like I might have to now!"
