Brighton remain eight clear, Saints into top seven

Brighton remain eight points clear at the top of League One while Southampton climbed into the play-off places. There was a full programme of fixtures on Tuesday evening although Rochdale's local derby at home to Oldham and Notts County's visit to Hartlepool were both abandoned due to heavy rain. Ashley Barnes scored a brace as pace-setters Brighton beat Exeter 3-0 to record their fourth straight win and stretch their unbeaten run to 11 league games. Adam El-Abd claimed a seventh-minute opener for the hosts before Barnes, 21 this month, converted a penalty on the half-hour and claimed his seventh of the season late on. Another in-form youngster impressed as Alex Chamberlain bagged a brace in Southampton's 4-0 win at home to Dagenham. The 17-year-old midfielder scored an 11th-minute opener before claiming his third in three games in the 37th minute, and second-half strikes by Lee Barnard and Jose Fonte secured victory as the resurgent Saints climbed into the top six for the first time this season. Huddersfield remain second after winning 2-0 in their Yorkshire derby away to Sheffield Wednesday, Graham Carey and Anthony Pilkington scoring in the first half.

Colchester come back to stay third

Colchester stayed in third place as they came from behind to win 3-2 at home to Leyton Orient. Orient led 2-0 inside 18 minutes after an early brace by Alex Revell, but Matt Heath soon pulled one back and Dave Mooney levelled with a 32nd-minute penalty before Brian Wilson claimed an 80th-minute winner. Peterborough moved into fourth after a 3-1 win at Walsall with early Ryan Bennett and Arron Davies efforts having put them in charge. Although Julian Gray pulled one back in the 53rd minute, Posh defender Kelvin Langmead struck just two minutes later to secure victory. Charlton are up to fifth after gaining revenge over Swindon with a 3-0 win at the County Ground. The Robins beat Charlton in last season's play-offs but Johnnie Jackson gave the Addicks an early lead before strike pair Joe Anyinsah and Paul Benson sealed the three points after the break. Bournemouth's 1-1 draw at Brentford was not enough to keep them in the top six, with Danny Hollands' 64th-minute header cancelled out just four minutes later by the hosts through a penalty by sub Lewis Grabban. Carlisle halted a run of three games without a win as James Berrett and Peter Murphy scored either side of the break to give the Blues a 2-0 victory at home to Tranmere and take them eighth.
Wright-Phillips tops scoring charts
MK Dons are also on the rise - up to ninth - after enjoying a 3-2 win at home to Yeovil. Despite Dean Bowditch's opener, the Dons led after 50 minutes through Dean Lewington and Jemal Johnson, and despite Adam Virgo's 75th minute equaliser, Peter Leven won it with an 87th minute penalty. Bradley Wright-Phillips scored twice in the last 13 minutes to give Plymouth a 3-1 home win against Bristol Rovers. Dean Parrett gave the hosts a 64th minute lead and although Will Hoskins levelled just three minutes later, Wright-Phillips struck to win it. That made it 10 goals in 10 league games for the Argyle striker and took him clear as League One's leading scorer.
