Kevin Nolan has been confirmed as the new manager of League Two side Notts County.
Nolan met County's new owner Alan Hardy for an interview on Thursday night, as did another potential candidate in Mark Robins.
But it is the 34-year-old former West Ham midfielder who will take over a County team just a point above the Sky Bet League Two relegation places, having lost their last 10 games.
Nolan, who also played for Bolton and Newcastle, became the youngest boss in the English Football League last January when he became player-manager of Leyton Orient.
Orient won seven of his 15 games in charge before he was replaced in April.
County's owner Hardy met the media for the first time on Thursday, after completing his takeover on Wednesday.
Hardy said: "I have spoken to five managers in the last five days and Kevin Nolan is outstanding, and that's what this club needs. I will provide the leadership off the pitch and he will provide it on the pitch.
"Not only is he still a good footballer but at Leyton Orient he had immediate success and that is important for us because we need to start winning games and climbing the table and get away from relegation zone."
