Simpson to look elsewhere for replacement for Holt

Shrewsbury Town boss Paul Simpson has confirmed Dagenham & Redbridge striker Paul Benson has turned down a move to the Prostar Stadium. Skysports.com revealed earlier this month that Benson had been the subject of a six-figure bid from one of Dagenham's League Two rivals. The Shrews were the club in question, but Benson has rejected the switch and is now expected to sign a new three-year contract with the Daggers. Simpson told the club's official website: "Unfortunately the player has turned down the chance to come to the club and that is always possible when you make enquiries. "We made a six-figure offer for a striker and he's decided that he doesn't want to move, it's been reported that it was Paul Benson from Dagenham and that is who we enquired about. "We have a number of players in mind that we are interested in and we now move on and see if they are interested. "It's not a case of a second choice as we were led to believe Paul Benson wanted to come to us and was prepared to move, but unfortunately that isn't the case." Gillingham had pulled out of the chase for Benson due to the forward's price tag, while Millwall and Swindon have also been linked with a bid.
