Striker extends Leicester contract until 2012

Veteran striker Steve Howard will stay with Leicester until June 2012 after signing a new contract with the club. The 34-year-old hit the winner at Leeds in midweek to give Sven-Goran Eriksson his first victory as manager and has scored three times this season. Executive director Aiyawatt Raksriaksorn believes Howard boasts all the qualities that will help Leicester achieve their target of getting back into the Premier League. "Steve is a very determined player and he has the character we are looking for at the club as we strive to progress," Raksriaksorn told the club's website. "We are delighted that Steve has agreed to sign and we are all hoping that he can continue to display his good form for the team and help to move us in the right direction up the division." Howard added: "I am very pleased to have signed this new deal. "The faith shown in me by Leicester is something I am keen to repay. I pledge to give my all for the supporters to help the club get back where we belong."
