Ellis Harrison struck a hat-trick inside seven first-half minutes as Bristol Rovers thrashed Northampton 5-0

Bristol Rovers striker Ellis Harrison scored a seven-minute hat-trick against Northampton on Saturday as the Gas ran out as 5-0 winners.

The 22-year-old actually netted four of the goals scored by the hosts in the Sky Bet League One match-up, with Billy Bodin getting the scoring underway in the seventh minute.

But it was a superb treble from the former Wales Under-21 international that stood out at the Memorial Stadium, with his first goal coming in the 17th minute as he turned home a James Clarke cross at close range.

Four minutes later, Harrison was on target once again as Mark McChrystal nodded a Chris Lines cross into his path that the striker made no mistake in powering home.

He was not done there though, and he rounded off his hat-trick in the 24th minute - seven minutes after opening his account - with Cristian Montano the provider as he flicked past Cobblers goalkeeper Adam Smith to make it 4-0 to Bristol Rovers.

Harrison made it four with the only goal of the second half as the hosts moved into eighth place in the League One table and just a point from the final play-off spot.
