Darlington have agreed a deal to bring former keeper Sam Russell back to the club on a one-year contract.

Davey happy to be bringing keeper back to the club

Darlington have agreed a deal to bring former goalkeeper Sam Russell back to the club on a one-year contract. Quakers boss Simon Davey is planning for a campaign in the non-league ranks next season and has signed up Russell for the task. The 27-year-old has been playing in the Blue Square Premier for Wrexham this season and Davey is happy to be adding Russell to his squad. "Sam brings some much-needed experience," Davey told the club's official website. "He's a local boy so he knows the area and obviously he's been with the club before so he knows what it's all about and he knows the fans. "We need experience going into the Blue Square Premier and Sam offers us that so he fits the bill perfectly." Russell spent three years at Darlington, making over 110 appearances for the club before leaving for Rochdale in 2007.
